  • 44 mpg on highway

Bought the 2019 Jetta nearly a year ago. So far very satisfied. It's our first VW ever. The little 1.4 liter turbo and 8 speed transmission together delivers adequate power as well as amazing MPG. The handling and braking are also noticeably better than any one of the Japanese cars we have owned. Styling is also the best in its class IMO.
  • Very Impressive - Jetta S Stick

It is really almost hard to believe how good a car this is! But it definitely is. I bought a '19 Jetta S with Manual transmission and Driver Assist package (blind spot, front collision avoidance technology and cross traffic alert in rear). My car also had VW maintenance at 10,000 and 20,000 miles, the full Roadside Assistance kit for trunk, All weather mats front and rear and Car-Go trunk liner. Sticker price was 20,425; I bought it for 16,500. I added the hard wired Day / Night rearview mirror with Homelink (a very smart option IMO). My car had Bridgestone tires which I preferred. I am totally impressed with the car. Fit and finish are excellent. The lines are much better than the older models. The interior is quiet and comfortable even though this is a base model. Apple Car Play works as smoothly as you would expect and the audio head is perfectly sufficient for me. Yes, I agree that Sirius/XM would have been nice, but I have SXM on my iPhone from a mobile subscription and it plays fine for me through Bluetooth on the VW head. I also really like the electronic parking brake. Most cars with this price point have a manual parking brake. The electronic one on this car allows you to start out forward or in reverse with the parking brake active and it automatically disengages when you let out the clutch. Found this out in reading the Owner's Manual and so glad I found this nice feature. My daughter leases a 2018 VW Tiguan S and, like her, I find the S trim to be more than sufficient on this car. Who wouldn't want the SE or SEL trim? But at more than 3,000 more than what I paid, I am perfectly happy with all that is packed into the S model. VW called this one right! I am in awe of the responsiveness of the 1.4T motor with the Manual transmission as well as the impressive gas mileage (first drive on highway got me just shy of 42 mpg). The 6 speed stick shifter is truly silky smooth, as good as past BMW's I have owned. The German design and technology is evident throughout. The day after delivery, I had to drive on secondary roads on a 100 mile trip. The weather conditions were just horrible -- high winds, slushy roads, heavy rain / freezing rain / snow. The car remained quiet, responsive, non-flappable and simply stuck to the highway regardless of the wind gusts. I felt very safe and comfortable throughout. I managed another 42 mpg going 60-62 mph. I mainly got this car to use as a tow vehicle behind my 45' motor coach, but I am so impressed with it that it will definitely be a daily driver for me for a lot of the time. I am a big car guy, having owned at least 140 new cars over the years and to be as impressed with this one as I am says a lot. The dealer does not sell lots of S models and not many sticks at all; I am really glad I found this one equipped as it was and made my deal for it. And how about the incredible VW 6 year / 72,000 mile warranty?? You can run it for three years and still have another three year bumper to bumper warranty which is transferrable to a new owner. Fabulous deal! I am very, very happy with my purchase. VW is doing it right on this car!

It’s a long review, but I am writing my experience with the Jetta. 2019 Volkswagen Jetta is a great car in every aspect. A lot of drivers say that the 1.4 engine/ 147 horse power is not enough ! Well, try Corolla, Elantra, and Civic. Jetta is a Turbo engine that produces enough power for the car size. As for the gas mileage so far I am getting 45 MPG, and I am using regular unleaded fuel 87. The Jetta is not built for racing, but believe me the 1.4 turbo engine is well enough power. I own a 2018 Corolla and 2019 Jetta, since I have bought the Jetta I have stopped driving the Corolla. I bought the SEL trim level for so many reasons, I had to pay only $2200 more to get the SEL rather than the SE trim. SEL trim has digital dashboard ( Volkswagen Digital Cockpit ), BeatsAudio peakers, 4 driving modes, rain sensing wipers, adaptive cruise control, Lane Keeping System (Lane Assist), 10-color customizable interior ambient lighting, High Beam Control (Light Assist). The Jetta is a solid car, I drove it once at the speed of 90 miles/hr it was very stable, the 8 speed transmission is great at the speed of 65mi/hr the engine RPM is less than 2000 that means the engine is quite. Noise level during driving on a highways is very acceptable, it’s not completely isolated but it’s very comfortable compared to the competitive cars. My height is 5 10, and I am 230 lbs. I have tried the front seat, driver seat, and the back seat they are all comfortable. The seats does not have too much cushions like the Japanese or the Korean cars, but it’s very comfortable. Because I am 5 10 It took me over a week to adopt the seating position, if you are tall then be prepare to not feel comfortable in the driver seat at the beginning but definitely you will get comfortable later. Volkswagen Digital Cockpit Is only available on the SEL & SEL premium trims, very usel, elegant and you can select whatever data that you want to be displayed on your dash, and you can change the colors too, its very luxury. There is one thing you need to know, that the navigation display on the dash is only available on the SEL Premium. The air condition is cold, the Climatronic® dual-zone automatic climate control is working perfect and it cools the car fast during Texas hot summer, cooling wise the Corolla is much better. Front seat heating is very efficient, and it warms the seat fast. During cold weather the windows get foggy, right now I have 4 cars in my house hold they are all 2018 ( RAV4, Corolla, wrangler JL, and my 2019 Jetta SEL ) plus the previous cars that I owned before, non will get that foggy like the Jetta, all the other cars I put ON the Defog maybe once or twice and that’s all, but with the Jetta they have to be ON all the time ! ( I don’t like that ), but I can live with it. The Jetta has an emergency brake, one day I was reversing and my son 15 years was walking behind the car, the car applied an emergency brake. If you are driving and getting close to the car in front of you the Jetta will give you a warning in the dash that the distance with the car in front of you is not enough. The blind spot feature in the Jetta is amazing, if there is a car next to you the Amber color blind spot light will come on steady, if you put the blinker the Amber color blind spot light will flash, if you make a lane change then as a precaution the steering will automatically take over to bring you back to your lane due to a vehicle is in your blind spot area ( you can override it ). Adaptive cruise control will track the speed of the vehicle in front of you, Incase the vehicle in front of you starts to slow down the adaptive cruise control will slow down your speed to maintain a safe preselected distance between your Jetta and the vehicle in front of you, and it will drop your speed till a full stop if needed. The rain sensing windshield wiper is a great option, all you have to do is drive and the Jetta will take care of the rain intensity for you. Unfortunately the Jetta has only 1 USB data port !!!! So either you connect your phone, or the iPod, my SEL didn’t come with a navigation so I have to connect my phone but I am missing the Music from my iPod. BeatsAudio Is very loud and clear, big difference between the regular speakers and the BeatsAudio speakers. The panoramic sunroof is so beautiful so nice, it’s not a full panoramic but it’s big enough, and it’s bigger than the standard sunroof on other competitive cars The warranty 6 years/72,000 miles is a big plus, schedule maintenance is every 10,000 miles, or 12 months whichever comes first, the maintenance cost is about $34 a month for a duration of 5 years or 75,000 miles, very reasonable cost. Things that I wish Volkswagen company needs to improve in a Jetta : 1- the Beige interior has a Black color console and a black front arm rest, if you get the Grey interior then the console and the front arm rest is Grey. They need to make the middle console and the front arm rest Beige just like the Grey interior option. 2- the only way to END a phone call is through the screen, there is NO end call button in the steering wheel Like the Atlas or Tiguan ! 3- there is only 1 USB data port, so either you have the apple car play or the iPod, you CAN NOT have both at the same time. 4- There is a charging USB port inside the middle front console, it is better off if it is in the back seat. 5- please Add a USB data for the iPod either in the gloves compartment or inside the middle console. 6- Remote start should be added to the SEL trim. 7- HomeLink garage door is not available on any trims. 8- There is No Beige interior in the SEL premium trim level. 9- The customizable interior ambient lighting needs to be brighter, it’s very dim. 10- The front leg area light is white, I wish if it was customizable to match the color of the customizable interior ambient lighting. My advise if possible test drive the car for at least 1-2 hours before buying it, or try to rent one before you decide buying a Jetta, the reason behind this is to try all the features on the Jetta , as soon as you you are done with the test drive go immediately and test drive a Japanese or a Korean cars, you will feel the differences right away. I am not saying that Japanese or Korean cars are not good, they are excellent cars, but the Jetta will win. I will definitely recommend Volkswagen Jetta to my friends and family, it’s a luxury car at a very reasonable price. I will rate it it 9 out of 10.
