Still one of the bestselling cars worldwide, the Toyota Corolla continues to evolve in notable directions. Next-gen models come in hatchback, sedan and hybrid. Both gas and hybrid models have incredible mileage to their credit, earning upwards of 40 mpg highway. What makes this ride so efficient? Our Brunswick Auto Mart team has two features that explain.

The Ultimate Transmission

Although available with six-speed manual, most Toyota Corolla models depend on Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT)). CVT is a type of automatic transmission. It continuously and automatically cycles through a multitude of diverse gear ratios as you drive. This makes for buttery-smooth gear-shifting, more consistent engine RPM and significantly better mileage over the vehicle's lifetime.

Powerhouse Engines

All but the Toyota Corolla SE and XSE rely on a 139-horsepower 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine. It sends power directly to the front wheels, the front-wheel drive resulting in reduced weight and better economy. The SE and XSE models come equipped with a 169-horsepower 2.0-liter four-cylinder that mates with CVT or an optional six-speed manual.
